Riga - Latvia's capital and largest city of the Baltic states. Located in the center of the country, on both banks of the Daugava River, near its confluence with the Gulf of Riga. Date of establishment - 1201. Arriving from Bremen Bishop Albert Buxhowden and founded in Riga this year, which later became the main city of Livonia. By 1211 at the initiative of the bishop was laid Duomo. In 1282 Riga joined the Hanseatic League.
